Frequently Asked Questions about the Anger Management Group
WHO IS THIS GROUP FOR?
This group is for adults who want to learn how to manage their anger so that they can be the partner, parent, friend, sibling, child, boss, or employee that they want to be. For the person who doesn’t want to feel bad about how they reacted to their loved one. For the person who is afraid that if they don’t get their anger under control, that their loved one might leave. For the person who got in trouble with the law because of their anger but who has always known that they needed help with their temper.
WHO IS THIS GROUP NOT FOR?
This group is not for someone who doesn’t think they have an anger management problem but is being forced to attend by a judge, probation officer, partner, parent or someone else.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN ANGER MANAGEMENT GROUP THERAPY?
There are so many benefits to joining Serenity Solutions’ Anger Management Group.
- You will learn how to catch yourself when you are triggered so that you can decide how to respond instead of reacting in a way that you might later regret.
- You will learn how to communicate your anger in respectful ways that feel good to you and the person you are communicating with.
- You will learn how to decrease triggers by learning how to manage your stress.
WHAT IF I KNOW SOMEONE IN THE GROUP?
Great question! It is rare that you will know someone in the group. Philadelphia has 1.5 million residents and that doesn’t include the people who live in the suburbs who participate in the group. However, if you should know someone in the group, here are the rules: Whatever happens in the group, stays in the group. As licensed therapists, we are required to keep all information shared with us confidential (except in cases of safety). The #1 rule of the group is that the group members follow that same rule. And remember, the other people in the group are there for the same reason you are there and probably want their privacy respected, too.
I COULDN’T POSSIBLY TALK ABOUT MY PERSONAL PROBLEMS TO A GROUP OF STRANGERS.
We hear this from a lot of people. You will never be forced to talk about something you don’t feel comfortable talking about. That being said, once you get to know the other members of the group, most people feel comfortable opening up about their issues with other people who are struggling with the same issues. We make sure that the group feels safe and supportive. Because everyone is there to work on the same problem, there is no judgment.
IS THE GROUP VIRTUAL OR IN-PERSON?
Our Anger Management group is currently virtual, using a secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing program. It is available to Pennsylvania and New Jersey residents. Click here for more information.
ANGER MANAGEMENT GROUP THERAPY DETAILS
The group meets for 10 weeks. You start and end with the same people and each week builds upon what you learned in the previous weeks. We ask that you attend every week to get the most out of the group.
COST
$70 per week (Some of the costs may be reimbursable by insurance depending on your plan. Contact your insurance company to find out. Click here for a list of questions to ask the insurance representative that answers the phone.)
HOW DO I JOIN?
To join the group, call Serenity Solutions at 267-317-8817 for your free 15-minute phone consultation (or click here to schedule your free phone consultation). During the phone consultation, we’ll gather some general information to make sure that the group is right for you. We’ll answer any additional questions that you have. Then we’ll schedule an individual face-to-face consultation. During that appointment, you’ll tell us more about you, your anger, and your goals for the group. This will help us to personalize the group to meet your needs. You will also get to know us better and get all of your questions answered. Then you will be registered to start the next group.
