Happy Recovery Month! This year marks the 25th anniversary of National Recovery Month. In addition to increasing awareness about mental health and substance abuse issues and available treatment options, Recovery Month focuses on those who are living in long-term recovery, to provide hope for those who are still struggling. Supporters and treatment providers are recognized and advocating for additional resources for those in need is strongly encouraged.
To celebrate Recovery Month, I will be participating in Recovery Walks! 2014 at Penn’s Landing on Saturday, September 20th. You can learn more and register at www.recoverywalks.org. I’d love to see you there!
To learn more about recovery, check out some of the websites listed below. Not only can you educate yourself about addiction and mental health issues, but you can also read the stories of others who have struggled, share your own story and learn how to get involved. The more people talk about addiction, mental health and recovery, the less stigma there will be and the more likely people will reach out for help when they need it. Educate yourself and those around you.
